Mysteries of the Rosary: The glorious mysteries
Jesus has done his work, now the responsibility rests with us.
The Apostles were desolate, with their leader destroyed by a shameful death they had nowhere to go. And then he appeared! He had not been destroyed and his message would live. The first message of the early apostles was ‘Christ is risen’. Imagine their joy at having him amongst them again. Unquenchable joy is the mark of a Christian. May we all be true to our heritage of joy.
Sometimes, when a new baby is due, mother, big sister or a close friend will come to stay, support and help. After a while she needs to go home, the new mother sees her off to the station and wonders how she will cope alone… No wonder the apostles were staring at the sky when Jesus ascended, the angel had to tell them to get down to work.
The descent of the Holy Spirit
We are back in the upper room, possibly the same one where the last supper took place. The apostles are afraid, they have locked themselves in (just like us now!) Enter the Holy Spirit. He hovered over Jesus at His baptism, now He hovers over the disciples at what we could call the baptism of the church. Enlightened by His fire, the apostles emerge from their fear and start teaching the good news. We should be doing the same.
The assumption of Our Lady
Our Lady does not die down into the earth, she is lifted up into heaven. We are all invited to join the trinity in heaven when our work on earth is done. Let us take care to be ready for that and clear any obstacles that could make our journey to heaven difficult.
The crowning of Mary queen of the angels and the saints
It is not hard to imagine Mary crowned in glory and surrounded by her heavenly court. If we asked her what she did to get there she would say: “I did as I was asked and it wasn’t anything special, most women know how to bring up a baby.” She is the favoured leader of all of us and commands the angels too. They are God’s messengers and she can send them to help us when we are perplexed.
